February is a short month but packed with lots of special days!
We have Groundhog day, which we all know, Phil did not see his shadow so we are in for an early Spring!! If I could meet Phil right now I would kiss him for that!!! (hehehe)

Next we celebrated the Chinese New Year! Quite an exciting time in China! Lots of food, dancing, parades, celebrations, and, oh yes, did I mention Food?
This year is the year of the Snake! This means Water Snake – Years 1953 and 2013. Ones born under this sign are Influential, motivated, insightful, and highly intellectual. These Snakes work well with others and enjoy being recognized and rewarded. They’ll reveal feelings to those closest to them, but no one else.
Interesting isn't it?

February 12th was our 16th President's Birthday, Abraham Lincoln. He was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in Hardin County (now LaRue County), Kentucky. He rose from humble origins and less than a year of formal education to become the 16th President of the United States, and one of the great men of American history.
Lincoln was elected President on November 6, 1860, and led the United States through the nation's greatest crisis, the Civil War (1861-1865). He is credited with saving the Union from disintegration and eliminating slavery in America.
On the evening of April 14, 1865 Lincoln was assasinated as he watched a play at Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C. He was the first American President to be assasinated. Thousands of mourners lined the tracks as his funeral train moved him from Washington to his final resting place in Springfield, Illinois.

Ash Wednesday was February 13th and is a Christian observance that marks the first day of Lent, which is prior to Easter. Ash Wednesday follows Shrove Tuesday, which features Mardi Gras celebrations.

The day after Ash Wednesday of this year, we celebrated Valentine's Day, the day to show our love for one another, and a special time for ones in love to show just how much they cherish each other. Many are married on Valentine's Day as well.
This Valentine's Day our HA wrote to the Editors of Pogo and told them of the Love he met on Pogo!

"My pogo name is wolfscub and yes I fell in love on pogo not with one but many.
I fell in love with a group of ladies and gentlemen who play on pogo in a league and they are the most wonderful group you ever want to meet.
They have seen me some very rough times.
I met them on my moms site after her death.
Ms Clara talked me into joining pogo and their league.
We meet everyday and evening they IM me and send me emails.
They are the sweetest ladies you want to meet.
Most are older then me but I love each and everyone of them.
They have helped me through a death of a loved one and 6 major surgeries.
Did I fall in love? Yes, I can truly say, yes I did.
It may not be the kind that leads to marriage, but its a far deeper love of friendship and caring, and that love will last a long time."

Presidents' Day, which is the 18th this year, was originally set up to celebrate Lincoln and Washington's Birthday. But recently was changed to celebrate all the presidents on this day, to give recognition to them all.

George Washington's birthday is the 22nd of February.
Washington was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, serving as the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He also presided over the convention that drafted the Constitution, which replaced the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution established the position of President of the republic, which Washington was the first to hold.

The last special day of the month is Purim. Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire from destruction in the wake of a plot by Haman, a story recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther.
According to the Book of Esther, in the Hebrew Bible, Haman, royal vizier to King Ahasuerus (presumed to be Xerxes I of Persia), planned to kill all the Jews in the empire, but his plans were foiled by Mordecai and his adopted daughter Queen Esther. The day of deliverance became a day of feasting and rejoicing.
Purim is celebrated by giving mutual gifts of food and drink, giving charity to the poor, a meal of celebration, and public recitation of the Scroll of Esther, in addition to the prayers and the grace after meals. Other customs include drinking wine, wearing masks and costumes, and having a public celebration.

February may be the shortest month, but it sure puts out a lot of celebration! Hope you enjoyed the bits of knowledge about each one!!

Joe has added an Ethnic Section to the Recipe book and ooooooh the good food that is in there!! You are missing out if you don't take time to visit all that is provided for you in YOUR website!

We have many of our members who are sick, having surgeries, needing financial help, and other needs. Please keep them in your prayers, light a candle for them, and send a card. All could use our prayers and support during these tough times.
